Dry Stone Walls
Dry Stone Walls might not be fascinating to everyone, but once you give them some thought you can hardly avoid being impressed by them.
There are thousands of kilometers of Dry Stone Walls in the South East of Victoria.
They start occurring up around Derrinallum, near Mount Elephant, (which you pass on your way here from Melbourne if you take the Hamilton Hwy route) & they continue right up to our gate.
The skill came out with the earliest settlers, and how many man hours have been invested in the erection of these walls is impossible to calculate.
I love them, I love the way the character of the walls changes from region to region. I love they way they follow the undulations of the landscape.
They've been here a good few years and I fully expect they'll endure a good few more yet, a lasting tribute to their makers & a lost art.
